Nvidia Develops New China-Specific Chip Amid U.S. Export Restrictions

Nvidia has engineered a new semiconductor, unofficially dubbed the B30A, specifically tailored for the Chinese market to navigate stringent U.S. export controls. The chip employs a single-die design—a departure from the dual-die architecture of its flagship B300—to simplify production under regulatory constraints while maintaining competitive performance. Test units are slated for delivery to Chinese clients as early as next month, though final specifications remain undisclosed.

The move coincides with former President Donald Trump signaling openness to scaled-down chip sales to China, proposing a 30-50% reduction in computing power compared to Nvidia's current offerings. His comments followed an announcement requiring Nvidia and AMD to remit 15% of certain China-derived revenues to the U.S. Treasury. Despite these developments, bipartisan congressional concerns persist about technology leakage, casting uncertainty over approval for revised AI chip exports.
